Snake Eyes

A memory comes out of the shadows
Her father shooting dice
on the checkered linoleum floor
Ivory cubes bouncing off of the stove
Landing by her knees
Baby just got a
new pair of shoes

  1. There is perfect timing in the phrasing, I swear I could hear those dice jumping and rolling and coming to a stop and then her father's voice just sprang out in the last two lines. More evidence of the real magic in your exquisite poetry, Tina.

  2. Yes, indeed... so much of poetry, at least for me, lies in the sound. Plus, 'Baby just got a new pair of shoes' shows a level of understanding that lends an air of authenticity, since it's a phrase one wouldn't expect to come out of the mouth of a child unless she had first-hand knowledge. Rather sad, actually...

Plus, the first line portends something troubling to come... just a wonderful piece of work. Thanks for sharing it with us.
