something in the water

a childhood rite
to swim with friends
splash and play
dog paddle

miss lily white attitude
says
i don't like
to share my water

skin's too dark
too many of you
don't come back
here's your refund

  2. It is amazing these things still happen. Your poem is so careful and clear and wellmade. A very gentle activism.

  4. Thanks all. Yes, I couldn't believe that this sort of thing is still happening in 2009. But then I 'could' believe it, because I see it all the time.

Parents are still teaching their children to be racist. As long as that continues, our children will always feel the sting.

  6. It is shocking to think these incidents still occur in this day and age. Your point was softly-spoken, yet assertive. Very well written.
